I was hunting out a few new spots down at North Cottesloe last Saturday afternoon. It started off being very bright and I did'nt the would much point in hanging around, but then a massive black storm front came from the north east and provided a nice dramatic backdrop to the rock ledge I found.

For this shot I chilled some beers, cleaned the window of my hotel room, set up my tripod with the lens right against the glass. Then just sat there listened to some music, sipped some beers and waited for the sunset light show after a monsoon storm over Kota Kinabalu harbour, Sabah.

The view looking west from Lows Peak on Mount Kinabalu, Sabah, Borneo.
Just after the sunrise a cloud did a massive upsurge (????) which kind of looked like a volcano.

And there are about 70 people walking across that plateau....can you see them??

The Kionsom Waterfall system is without doubt one of the best waterfall systems I have experiened. Located in dense untouched tropical rainforrest in Sabah it is a pure pleasure to walk through and visit the many falls and streams over a 2 km area. And thanks to the Flickr buddies I got to share it with :D. I wished that I could have spent another couple of days visiting the area but a climbing mishap made it a bit difficult .... but I did try :)

Wedge Island Sunrise

The morning after the previous post. Its the first time I've actually dragged myself out of the shack for a sunrise here. The min temp in Perth this day was 28' and the max was 41'. So i have no idea how hot it was here ....... but it was almost unbearable.

Sugarloaf rock is located in the holiday region of Dunsborough about 2.5 hours south of Perth. It is an area of scenic pristine coastline.
I used a NDX400 filter to slow the exposure to capture the cloud movement.

Garden Island

The official temperature here in Perth peaked at 43 degrees today and it was far far hotter out in the sun. A perfect opportunity to take a trip out to Garden Island about 5 km of the coastline just south of Perth. It is an amazing limestone reef aquatic playground and also hosts a Naval base. Jet skis are banned within 500 metres of the coast, but we did'nt know that (i think) ;-)

These are the footprints of some unknown Garden island beast across the northern dunes. If the huge snakes dont get it then the sea eagles probably will.

Pantai Pererenan

A thunderstorm builds up at Pererenan Beach looking across Seseh beach and towards Tanah Lot, Bali.

Pererenan Beach is located about 40mins north of the famous Kuta beach on Bali. A ride through the rice paddys and viilages that seem wonderfully lost in time will bring you to this beach. Locals will visit in the evening to swim, exercise and generally socialize with their family and friends.

This area mostly undeveloped area and I hope it stays that way.

But given that I got swamped by a wave and my filters got drenched before I even got to press the shutter.....I will post one from the day before. Snorkeling off Bamboo Island, Sihanoukville, Cambodia.
The weather was terrible this day as you can tell from the background clouds.
We got hammered by a monsoon storm upon leaving Serendipity Beach in Sihanoukville, on the way to Bamboo Island. We were all drenched by rain and covered in sea water from the large waves, only just managed to keep all the camera gear dry by stashing it into a poncho. It sure was good to land at the island after 40 minnutes of that.

After visiting James Bond island with my friend Bar and her family we stopped off at Raman Waterfall, Phang Nga Province, Thailand on the way back to Phuket. There are many falls in the area covered in a thick tropical canopy. Also some very nice swimming spots.

This was a very spur on the moment shot (no tripod – ISO 3200) because I loved the way the little girl was imitating the walk of her father. What a great way to end the day!!

Kbal Spean, Cambodia

Commonly known as the valley of a 1000 Lingas, Kbal Spean: is set deep in the jungle to the north east of Angkor. A 45 minute steep walk takes you to the river and waterfalls where hundreds of phalluses are carved on the riverbed.

The waterfall here is best seen at the end of the rainy season. At the top of the falls are numerous carved figures and animals This site has only been opened up to tourism since 1998 and is less crowded than the nearby Phnom Koulen. This Hindu Pilgrimage site predates Angkor Wat by some 200 years; making it one the most ancient sites in the region.
Kbal Spean is looked after very well; the waymarked trail is a very attractive route through atmospheric jungle. The path is steep; with some well maintained steps. Sounds of birds and wildlife with hundreds of butterflies enhance the visit which is at its best in the rainy season or early in the Dry season May through to December.

This shot was taken in the Canggu area of Bali, which is located north of the Seminyak area on the western coastline. Just north of the restraunts and bars on Echo Beach are many bays with great rocky outcrops and reefs. Perfect for seascape photography. Well worth spending the afternoon cruising along the beach waiting for the sunset and having a cold drink and some fresh seafood after packing away the camera!

I 've just got back to Perth after 3 months travelling around SE Asia. Mainly Laos, Cambodia, Thailand and Bali. I grabbed this shot while on a photo walk with a couple of Flickr contacts Jessy (http://www.flickr.com/photos/tropicaliving/) and Nadia ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/helminadia/ ). Its always great to meet new Photogs, watch them as they weave their magic and the techniques they use. I learnt a great deal just hanging out.

These ladies certainly new how to capture the colour and feel of a magic Bali sunset.

Relax Time

Thanks to my Flickr friend Bussabar and her family for showing me around Phuket and the surrounding provinces.
They have welcomed me into their villages and houses and shown me places the average tourist would not get to see.
This picture was taken at Bussabars brother,Koren's, house. Where the morning coffee and Thai deserts were a treat.
On Saturday I am heading to Bali and surrounding islands in Indonesia.

Preah Khan Cambodia

Most people just walked straight through this room to visit the rest of the temple.
I spend a number of hours watching the light come through the windows creating amazing shadows on the temple floor.

Mekong Sunset

Fishing on the Mekong River, Vientienne Laos. The left side of the river is Thailand and the right hand side is Laos.

It is a nice place to watch the sun go down. During the Songkran (New Year) Festivle this part of the river is turned into a beach
for the Laos to swim, have partys and play sport.

Well its only about two weeks to go until I head off on a three month mission to SE Asia. I will start at Vientienne Laos for the Songkran (New year) festival and work my way down to Bali in late June. I sure there will be many adventures and shenanigans along the way :-)

Rottnest Island

Headed over to Rottnest Island off the coast of Perth over the weekend as the weather was perfect for a bit of underwater photography and all the other mischief you get up to on the island. I rode a bicycle the whole way around (about 20kms) and went to just about every bay.........so I have no idea which bay this one is :-)

I headed up to Wedge Island for the weekend with a couple of mates as the weather report was looking good for photographing the dunes and getting up to a bit of other mischief. On the way up we passed through an area next to the Yanchep National Park that had been burnt out by a bush fire about 1 month ago. The morning light coming through the clouds meant we just had to pull over and take a couple of shots.

Dunes

Did a spur of the moment 4wd trip up to Wedge Island with Wazza and Sars. Just as we arrived the sunset commenced and provided us with some awesome light to photograph the dunes. Wedge Island is located about 2 hours north of Perth.
